The Language of Me The Dialect of My Identity Growing up right outside of Richmond means that my dialect has strong influences of The Tidewater region. Although this area is where I was raised, my dialect has strong influences from those I spend a lot of time with. My mother was born and raised in North Carolina. Her dialect tends to lean more towards Classical Southern. My father was born in Michigan, and while he has changed the way he spoke to match the more southern region he lives in, he has
