Throughout the course of history there have been many advances in the world of infrastructure, mostly occurring in the 1800’s and the 1900’s. Infrastructure is defined as the basic physical and organizational structure needed for the operation of a society or enterprise, or the services and facilities necessary for an economy to function. This definition shows how important infrastructure is to people’s lives today. It affects how people live, travel, and communicate with one another. Three men who made huge contributions in the world of infrastructure were Robert Moses, Richard Ravitch and Othmar Hermann Ammann. All three of these men were involved in designing numerous landmarks, highways, bridges, tunnels, and other forms of infrastructure that today we take for granted. Although all of these men were involved in infrastructure in the New York metropolitan area, their contributions, personalities, and the public’s opinion of them were all different.

Since its beginning, the point system and many other parts of the L.E.E.D. certification process have been criticized by architects, building contractors, and environmental activists. Many have complained that it has too many loopholes to be put through serious consideration, and that the certification process is wasteful and ineffective at achieving true green credibility. As a result, the USGBC has continued to modify the L.E.E.D. certification process. There are five rating systems that address multiple project types. Firstly is Building Design and Construction (BD+C). This system applies to buildings that are being newly constructed or going through a major renovation. Some examples of major renovation are new construction, core and shell, retail, schools, hospitality, data centers, warehouse and distribution centers, and health care. Secondly is Interior Design and Construction (ID+C), This system applies to projects that are a complete interior fit-out; like commercial interiors, retail, and hospitality. They were built with good safety and precision. The discipline that Is mostly used in this achievement Is civil engineering. Civil engineering has to do with building and that’s how highways were built architecture had to do with this as well. Highways are a big part of the American society and other societies as well. The highways were built to increase transportation in cars and how they can travel in faster ways to get to places quicker and faster. These highways have a safe and nice structure which makes it more economical to society. Ever since highway have been built they have had less accidents on local streets around the city. This makes things safer. Architecture was is a big part when they build highways or when they had built them. Architecture is an expansion of civil engineering, this is good when you have to build something such as highways because architectures take the time to make what they build very steady and strong for it to stay in place and stay steady. This is achievement I have chosen because it has to do with what I am interested in, which is civil engineering and the study of architecture.
